The Big East has gotten between 4-7 bids, with 5-6 being the norm. That means, at 60%, Creighton is slightly outperforming the league average. The Big East is also above average in bids per team vs other power conferences. So, Creighton is above average for a power conference team. I don't put as much stock in the post season, because that is a much smaller sample size. Creighton also has gone to the Round of 32 under McDermott at least a couple times.
In a league where all 9 other teams have had more historical post-season success than Creighton, I guess I disagree that Creighton should be doing much better than they currently are. Having a lot of local fans, while great, doesn't entitle Creighton to success. They haven't done anything to be put in the same category as a Nova or Georgetown, and thus firing a coach under current circumstances would be ridiculous. It'd be a really bad look for the school, and could negatively impact hiring going forward.
I'll just reiterate my point: McDermott absolutely should not be fired after this year. After next year?
Maybe. That's the time to discuss.
