I’ll make a prediction that Creighton and Georgetown will play three times in the next six weeks – this Thursday to decide the BE regular season title, again to decide the BE tourney champion (Xavier could easily spoil those plans) and a third time in the semifinals of the College Cup. Georgetown should be a #1 seed, but the Jays may need to win at least one NCAA tournament road game to get to KC. If this scenario plays out, expect the rivalry to ramp up several notches for next year. Both teams return key players.

I feel pessimistic about the Jays' chances the first two Georgetown games. Georgetown only needs to manage a tie in the season finale to win the tiebreaker, which, should GTown win through to the championship, would then force Creighton to make a second cross-country trip to DC soon. The Hoyas can play it safe and bunker down while they wait for counterattacks. Should they meet in KC during the College Cup, however, I think the Jays would enjoy a near home-field advantage, with maybe 8-10k fans traveling from Omaha, possibly more. The weather in KC that time of year could make it interesting.

And Georgetown completes the Perfect BE regular season with a 2-1 win over Creighton. Unbeaten and untied in BE play. Hoyas looked the better of the teams in the first half. Much more even in the second half. Look forward to the rematch in the championship game.

Selection Show at 1pm today.

Only Georgetown and Creighton are locks. Xavier and Butler are bubble teams on the outside looking in based strictly on RPI, but Xavier in particular has several big wins. Will be interesting to see what the committee does with those two. Also looking to see if Georgetown gets a top 4 seed and what seed Creighton gets.

Tough seed for Creighton and Big East as a whole got no love. Xavier probably should have gotten in.

NCAA loves their story lines. potential UNC v. Creighton match up in the second round.

Cograts to the Hoyas on the BE championship. Judging by the NCAA seeds, 3 and 12, and injuries to key Jays players, GTown may need to carry the BE banner this year.

May I suggest the RPI calculation requires some tweaking. Xavier and Butler were quality teams that were better than their RPIs. I think I heard that 75% of the RPI is determined by your opponents' performance versus their opponents. That just seems like a bogus formula when a majority of your RPI score is completely beyond your control.
