Some good publicity for Fabian Herbers:

Men's Player of the Year Watch: Oct. 2

The top candidate? A German in Nebraska. Here are five of the most intriguing players to watch so far.

Fabian Herbers, Creighton

For whatever preseason hype any other player in the nation received, one barely arguable fact (at least in this column today) is that Herbers is the frontrunner for the Hermann Trophy through September. We can argue what the trophy actually represents (best player on best team? Most valuable regardless of team performance?), but Herbers has not only performed above and beyond this year, but he’s also been the most crucial player on the nation’s No. 1 team. There are nine individual offensive statistical categories kept in the Big East, and Herbers either leads or is tied for the lead in all nine. Incredible. Nobody in college soccer has been better than the German forward this season.

Watching game film, Drake didn't just park the bus, they borrowed a bus and parked it in the box also. Creighton outshot Drake 28-5 (21-2 second half), 10-1 on Shots on Goal and had an 11-0 advantage on corner kicks. Unfortunately for Creighton, this is probably the reality of how most teams will play them the rest of the season. They are going to have to really alert on defense to not give up anything.

Looks like a two horse race for the BE title with Hoyas and Creighton both 5-0 in conference play. Georgetown has played the tougher conference schedule to date. Would make for a hell of a season finale if the teams remain undefeated going into the season finale.

A little concerned with our RPI as some of the league teams have hurt us to be fair. Hopefully even a 1 loss Creighton team would receive a #1 seed and home regional.
